TE 801 Professional Roles and Teaching Practice I

Fall 2006
In this course, we explored the roles of teachers, both the ethical responsibilities as well as other professional responsibilities.  We discussed what roles teachers have both in their classrooms and in the school. We focused also on the teaching of mathematics and applied those theories to our internship classrooms. 
Example of Work: Tessellation Exhibit Project and Rubric
The example of work that I am including focuses on a project that I created for my 5th grade internship classroom.  Students were asked to create a tessellation based on a the provided rubric.

TE 802 Reflective and Inquiry Teaching Practice I

In this course, we discussed what it means to be a reflective teacher and how this idea applies to our everyday teaching and classrooms.  We were asked to be inquiry based teachers and apply this idea to our internship classrooms.  We also studied different teaching practices and styles and evaluated them on their effectiveness.  This course also focused on the best practices of language arts. 
Example of Work: Ten Day Unit on Culture
The example of work that I have included is a ten day unit on Culture that is aligned with the state benchmarks and GLCE's.

TE 803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II

In this course, we looked at how the community and school can work together to foster effective learning environments.  We focused on the best practices of social studies and how to integrate this into all other subject areas.  We also looked at special education and how to make accommodations in our classrooms.

The example of work that I chose for this course is a reflection of my yearlong teaching internship. 

TE 804 Reflective and Inquiry Teaching Practice II

In this course, we focused on science and how to make this subject area inquiry based.  We also focused on the scientific process and collecting, analyzing and interpreting data. 
Example of Work: See TE 803 work sample.  In this course, some of the work that I created included a few science experiments that focused on scientific inquiry and activities on how to incorporate science into other curricular areas.

CEP 841 Classroom Management in Inclusive Classrooms

In this course, we learned about classroom management plans and how to effectively develop one for our classrooms.  We compared experiences and looked at case studies on how to integrate efficient classroom management plans.  We also looked at various research methods on how to find out about students specific behaviors and what is causing them.

This work example is a research report that I did on Functional Behavior Assessments.  It includes what they are and how to conduct one.

CEP 842 Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms

During this course, we learned about the best instructional practices for students with mild disabilities in the general education classroom.  We learned about various disabilities and ways that we could integrate the needs of those students with disabilities into our classrooms.  We were asked to learn about various practices in science, social studies and mathematics that would improve students with disabilities academic and behavioral growth.
Example of Work: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the Elementary Classroom
This example of work that I have included is a report on ADHD in the classroom.  This includes information on my one of my first grade classrooms as well as research on ADHD and how to help students with this disorder be successful in the classroom setting.

CEP 840 Teaching Exceptional Children and Youth in General Education

In this course, we were asked to find ways to accommodate special education students.  We also focused on various learning disabilities and how to accommodate those learners in our classroom.  We were asked to define a problem of practice that we were having in regards to special needs students and, with the help of our instructor and classmates, solve it.
Example of Work: How to Help a Struggling Reader
In this work sample, I defined a problem of practice which was how to help a student who was reading significantly below grade level.  Once identified the problem, I developed a plan on how to help this student achieve reading success.

CEP 883 Psychology of Classroom Discipline

During this course, we looked at various discipline methods and how they could be effectively be applied to the classroom.  We also researched effective and noneffective discipline strategies.  Finally, we developed a classroom management plan for our current classrooms.
Example of Work: 5th Grade Classroom Management Plan
In this work example, I developed a plan of action on how to successfully implement and foster a fifth grade learning community. 

TE 842 Advance Methods of Elementary School Reading

In this course, we were asked to look at various teaching methods in regards to reading. We also followed three students and were asked to create instruction based on their individual needs in the area of reading.  We also looked at the differences between teaching reading in grades K-2 and grade 3-5.
Example of Work: Three Day Lesson on Retelling: Day One, Day Two, and Day Three
I have provided three samples of a series of lessons on retelling.  These lessons are geared for first grade students and it was meant to be used in the 3rd of 4th marking period of school which would be anytime after January. 

ED 800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Professor S. Weiland
Fall 2011
During this course, we were asked to learn about the various types of learning theories and evaluate them on their effectiveness in regards to inquiry.  We specifically focused on classroom-based or teacher research, theories of intelligence and the curriculum, history and biography, and ethnographic participant observation and reflection.

ED 870 Capstone Seminar
